Needle & Thread, Providence RI

A place with the coolest vibe and great food!

This basement space used to be Contes Dry Cleaners.  Thus the creative name “Needle & Thread”.  Perfectly placed old sewing machines placed throughout carry out the theme while rich dark colors with dimmed romantic lighting give the vibe of coziness and an intimate feel.  Rich reds and warm browns, drapery, brick, and design pressed tin on the ceiling.  The mystique and intimate feel is just what you expect form a speakeasy.

TO SIP

As it says on the menu, the drink are meant “to be sipped” and enjoyed as they are creative and delicious!  Worth every penny!  That’s what brought us back for a second time.  Rob had a Fruta Y Fuego.  It is a chili infused reposado, tequila, guava, lime, and house salt.  For those who like spicy, you’ll love this one.  I had the Spiced Pear Sidecar.  So good and my favorite.  How do I know?  I tried everyone else’s drinks!  This drink is composed of cognac, spiced pear liquor, ginger, and lemon.  All drinks served artfully!

The first time we went it was just for a cocktail.  I happened to sit next to the owner.  He’s very proud of his place, as well he should be!  We were so impressed we reserved a table for dinner for a future date.  It was a night a violinist was playing.  He plays hip hop music as well as a little of everything else.  He was amazing.  What a unique experience.  Everyone we were with loved it.  It was a great time.

The Food

Because there were eight of us, we were able to try a bunch of appetizers.  The Charcuterie Board had great spicy meats and tasty cheeses.  We also tried the Local Oysters and the Warm Green Goddess Oysters.  Oh my gosh, so good!  As was the Royale Double Cheeseburger!  A couple of us had the burger which was probably the best I ever had.  Another favorite was the Braised Short Rib dish.  I was so busy eating I never took photos of the food!  I was so mad at myself!  But if you visit their site or look them up on Instgram or Facebook you will see their fantastic dishes.

Definitely a place go!  We will be back!
